On Friday, March 13, 2026 my solar system was not working due to heavy rain and wind from the Kona storm the whole island chain was experiencing.

So I called the company on the next day and spoke Jan Michael who was a team member for after hour customer service and  he returned my call in about 20 minutes after I left a message.

He explained to me about my system being off-line due to the sun being nonexistent and it seems my batteries were dead.

Jan Michael was great with explaining my system to me and he was very professional and had great customer service.

Later that day I received a call from Kaipo their service technician guy who came to my house and gave me information about my unit.

Great customer service as well and was very knowledgeable of his job and explaining my unit to me. And explaining how to get in contact with another department about another issues I’m having to call on Monday.

I highly recommend Kaipo for your service technician and hope you guys get Jan Michael as your after hours customer service guy.

If you’re looking for a great solar company you should go with Holu Hou for your solar needs.

I have been very happy with Holu Hou since they installed my solar system over four years ago. They are great communicators, knowledgeable, respectful, and very responsive, arriving and addressing issues within an hour. This review has been almost a year in the making. If you are thinking of starting a large scale Solar/PV project. I would recommend Holu Hou Energy.  I did my research and contacted Holu Hou Energy & Kumu Kit. One contacted me in 3 days and the other contacted me in 3 months. Because of the scale of this project, I will break down my review into section.

Initial Contact/ Project Sales
In December 2022, I contacted Holu Hou Energy, and in three days, Sale Representative Cynthia contacted me, and we set up a meeting.  She was very informative and made every aspect of the project clear. The financing was done on the spot, and the payment did not begin until the system was active.

System Inspection/Install/Activation
My home was built in 1979. Needless to say, something needed work. Matt came by and did the preliminary inspection. My roof was bad and needed to be replaced. Holu Hou Energy had partnerships with True Home Hawaii Roofing. I don't have to stress and find a company to replace my roof. It was included in PV system financing.  System installation and activation went smoothly.

Negative Aspects
Like with any construction project, working with multiple companies can slow things down.  Hawaiian Electric Company permits and approvals took a while. City and County of Honolulu  permit have been pending. That is not Holu Hou Energy fault.

Closing
Holu Hou Energy was the wise choice, they handle everything from beginning to end. I couldn't be happier with the end result.

**UPDATE** March 5th, 2025
I have to update my review certain factors are not being accomplished in a reasonable time frame. This is the two year mark of the project,  and it still has not been completed. Once I began payment the customer response dropped drastically. I reach out periodically for updates. For the amount of money this project cost, my expectations were higher. I am hoping to get this resolved without litigation.

***UPDATE 4/15/2025***
A representative explained in detail what was going on with my project. Holu Hou Energy was not the problem, it was Hawaiian Electric Company (no suprise). He offered me solutions, and we where able to resolve the issue. All so the service team came out to address an issue with my battery backup. The were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. One of the best solar companies around!! Very responsive and at the forefront of solar tech, I spoke with them and plan to use their systems when they break out into the California solar market this year. Holu Hou came to the rescue when our first PV company went out of business. Holu Hou picked up where they dropped the ball and completed the project and seamlessly helped to take care of the system we already had in place.
